DFW Transmissions owner Tony Martin is a native Texan who grew up in Farmers Branch, TX and graduated from R.L. Turner High School. It was there that his passion for cars began while taking part in the school’s Automotive Repair Program. Martin attended nearby Brookhaven College after graduating in 1979 before subsequently going to work part-time for Detroit Diesel Allison Division as a tear-down and inspection repair tech. After three years with DDD, Martin had moved up in the ranks to become a Certified Craftsman Guild Rebuilder and Top Producer. Martin was eventually offered a lucrative position to rebuild transmissions in the auto repair industry and was hooked instantly.
He married the woman of his dreams in 1987, leaving his job soon afterward to pursue a starter business named Tony’s Transmission’s. After five years of successful operation his daughter was born, prompting his decision to sell the shop now known as Lewisville Transmission to his brother, who continues to operate the flourishing business to this day.
After working for the largest transmission shop in Dallas for five years, Martin still had the belief that he could bring a more personal level of service to customers than most companies. Upon returning to the business world in 1995, Martin opened Dallas Wholesale Automotive, whose mission was to mainly help other shops that had little experience in the area of transmissions.
The shop was moved to its current location on Walnut Hill Lane two years later in order to offer the personal service and wholesale pricing that Martin knew would attract a wide variety of customers.
“My employees are second generation mechanics that share my passion for cars,” Martin said. “Whether you need a simple adjustment to your brakes or a complete transmission overhaul…we can do it all. I’m a hands on owner that personally oversees every job that’s done here at this shop to make sure it’s done right.”
Martin continues to advance his knowledge by attending ATRA and ATSG Technical and Management seminars that are held regularly throughout the country, part of his ongoing desire to provide the best service possible to his customers.
